After it rains, earthworms come out and get trapped on the concrete. When I see them, I pick them up and move them back to the grass so they can live. They don’t know I did it. They can’t thank me. There’s no benefit to me. I do it because it’s the right thing to do.
That’s why Earthworm Software. It is a reminder that we do the right thing, even when it does not benefit us. The products we build are intended to help people who are stuck in ways they cannot see, but cannot find a way back to thriving without help. They will likely never meet us, nor will they thank us, but we do it anyway. The name is a reminder of why we build things, to help those who cannot build it themselves.
“Be Better” isn’t a slogan here. It means three things: no matter how good you are, you can always improve. Mistakes get learned from, not punished. We hold ourselves to a high standard and want to excel at what we do. We’re not perfect, but we hope to be a bit better every day.
Every product we build starts with the same question: how can we make this process better? Followed by: what do people who use this software actually need? Then we build the version people actually needed.
We don’t approach problems from inside the existing system. We look at what the system is supposed to do for the people using it, find where it fails them, and build something that is better. That means the products we make rarely look like what came before them. That is intentional.
We started with relationships. We are not stopping there.
Earthworm Software is incorporated in Alberta, Canada. We build for Canadians first, with Canadian values around privacy, community, and doing things properly rather than just doing them fast.
